A Poem For Father's Day

Hi, everyone! This is Amy, and here is a poem I wrote for my dad for Father's Day. I may have written it for him, but this poem includes every father that goes out daily to fight for his family and friends.

Fathers
By Amy O'Brien

While lying awake, I hear the gong,
The clink, the crash above their song,
The building, the fight still going strong
Brick by brick they lay up the wall.

I rise to see how it goes,
Men rising on ladders to serve their blows
A tool for the wall and sword for their foes,
Striking them down to the depth of below.

To the right, one fighter, I see him trip,
His ankle is caught by the Devil Foe's whip,
But he is saved by his brethren's grip,
He will not let his brother slip.

Still the demons wish to destroy,
The wall about my father's joy,
But I take a tool, I wield a sword,
For me and my house, we will serve The Lord!

And every moment of every day,
The cries of slain demons never sway,
But I can rest without a worry,
I know my father makes a way.

      Happy Father's Day!

My Dad and I

This Mornings Breakfast

The boys like to experiment once in awhile with their morning eggs by trying different spices, sauces, etc. to make them a little more exciting. Sam has been learning how to cook his own eggs and this is his take on making eggs more exciting - fried eggs with sprinkles.  Instant breakfast party!

Kid Logic Friday

"Mom says she doen't want a dog because they lick........... I don't think she understands that they don't lick ALL the time."

We had to privilege of visiting dear friends recently.  These friends most always request that the kids sing a hymn or two...or three.  Hymns are so edifying and remind us of who God is and His goodness and care for us.  Of course, I love hearing my own children singing them too :)

This was the reply after learning about what her particular hot dog is made out of........

"This shouldn't be called a hot dog, it should be called a hot pig!"

Morning Watercolor Poem

Messy hair and morning dew

Watercolors, every hue

Water swirls and colors run

Warming up now from the sun

Concentrating look, behold

Is It Hot Enough Yet?

Every year about this time I get asked if I will go in the pool and/or why don't I.  My usual response is that it has to be about 90 degrees in order for me to even think about going in.  It takes a lot of heat to make me want to actually get wet to cool off, but really I'm more thinking, "Is the water clean?"

Today Molly asked me why I wasn't a pool person, and Sam informed me that it is about 90 degrees so I can go in the pool now.

So I made it in the pool for about 30 seconds.  That was enough time for Ben to capture a few pictures with his new iTouch, but not enough time for the younger people to be satisfied that I actually went in the pool :)

Breakfast Fun

The summer has been full of hustling, bustling, outings, innings, taking care of a lot of business, and having a lot of fun.  With the older boys working, this summer finds me enjoying the younger crew in a new way.  This morning after the older boys were off to work, David asked to make Eggs in a Well - a breakfast we haven't had in a very looong time.

Mmmmmm

Breakfast is served!

They seem to enjoy this a lot. Looks like we have a new old breakfast favorite!

Sometimes my kids do or say something to just make my day a little extra special  .............

........and sometimes it's fun to return the blessing.

You mean you used to know how to..............................

Today a child discovers mother used to do something other than laundry.  Mom used to play piano and actually knows a little about inversions!

Our Amaryllis Tradition

Amaryllis are the plants you see around this time of year that are sold in a box with the seasonal items.  They grow very fast and get huge beautiful blooms.  The kids plant the bulb and mark the very bottom of any green leaf that is showing.

Then one week later the kids mark it again and measure how much it has grown.

It's really amazing to see just how fast they grow in one week.

You can see by the marks in this picture that they literally grow many inches in one week!

We have only had this particular Amaryllis for five weeks and it is already blooming.

It has four huge blooms that look similar to a lily.

This one bloomed so fast that I think I will buy another one and start all over.

Maybe each child can have their own and we can make a race out of it : )
