Kid Logic Friday

The boy's closet door recently developed a problem with one of the hinges so it doesn't close properly anymore.  Molly returning something to the closet noticed that when she tried to close the door it would swing open right away.  After a few more times of trying to close the door she replies, "Mom, the door needs new batteries!"

Kid Logic for Thursday

John told Molly he would take her to the playground after he was done with his chores.  Molly was so excited. Can you imagine her face? Her excited wide smile, her legs hopping with delight, her eyes wide with the wonder that she, Molly, would soon enjoy the magnificent wonders of the playground! (Trying to imagine a toddler's brain waves)
My interview with Molly:

  "Molly," I held her in my lap, as I talked, "are you going to the playground?"
    "Yes," that excited little yelp, " John said he's going to take me and my Hello Kitty slippers! Are you comin' too?"
 "Yes!"

    Ben (who is a large 13 year old):  "Will you take me to the playground Molly?"
Molly replies, "No, you're too big; I can't push you on the swings.  But wait, let me see how big you are.
In the end Molly did decide that he was too big. (Smart)

 
   I, Amy, have been trying to educate my sister in the subject of pumping her legs to get going on the swings. In fact I have been equiping a few other children at the same thing, and the outcome is this: Every time any of those children ever get on the swings they start up their little chant "Out! In! Out! In!" etc. We will see whether they can yet master the technique.

It's Palm Sunday

From Martin Luther’s House Postil, from a sermon on John 12:12-19

“We should, therefore, mark all the difference between Christ’s kingdom and worldly powers, as he  himself clearly showed by his extraordinary entry into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey, without a saddle, the animal a borrowed one at that! He sat on it without pretense, just as he was, barefoot, without boots and spurs. From the human point of view the whole incident looked ridiculous, and yet this beggar-King, riding on a donkey, was Israel’s King, promised by God and foretold by the prophets. That was evident also from the way his followers greeted him, “Hosanna!” Blessings on this King and upon his new kingdom! “Blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” All of which made it crystal clear that he was in no way like worldly rulers who have amassed a lot of treasure and property for the purpose of displaying worldly pomp and circumstance for their public appearances. Christ was no such earthly king; on the contrary, he is an eternal King, with an everlasting kingdom where one needs neither gold or silver, and yet will never suffer any want or need in all eternity."

The Ponderings of a Ten Year Old

David, who is 10 now, usually has some interesting questions and comments, like wondering why girls don't have to cut their hair, or wondering if we were going to have a coin or dollar bill with President Obama on it now that he is in office. 

Today's question was, "Why when people say they are going to get married they don't get married for a really long time!  Why don't they get married the next day, or the next week at least?"  His next comment was, "And then when they get married they leave for a long time and we don't even get to see them!"

Conquering the tree!

 David loves stories battles with knights, swords and dragons and he draw pictures of them as often as he gets time to.

David made these out of sticky foam letters. Very creative!

 David is by far the most affectionate of the boys.  He is very tender hearted.

Amy took all of these pictures today.  She's thinking she wants to learn how to take good pictures as well as taking good videos.  I thought these turned out nice.

                                                            

Iowa Eagle Cam

So we've been watching this thing called Iowa Eagle Cam where it shows two eagles (a mommy and a daddy) in their nest. The mommy eagle layed three eggs, 2/21/11, and now two of them hatched and you can see her feed the little babies. The two bigger eagles will switch off from time to time and bring the babies new food. Right now there is a dead rabbit and a crow that they've caught. It's pretty amazing! The nest is in a tree 80 feet off the ground. If you want to see it just go to google and type in Decorah Iowa Eagle Cam or click on this link and you'll see what we're talking about.
