Fruity Goodness

What a blessing to live in the Northwest where we have an abundance of cherries, blueberries, raspberries, plum, blackberries, and more.

And they are right in our own back yard!

Speaking of blackberries.....

These three children

picked lots,

 and lots

 of blackberries.

 Mom found recipes.

We mixed

and poured

 and baked

one blackberry pie

 and one blackberry crisp.

The pictures were taken by David and Peter, but the anticipation of tasting the delectable desserts caused them to forget to take pictures of the finished products.

O well. There's always tomorrow and there's plenty more blackberries!

Breakfast Fun

The summer has been full of hustling, bustling, outings, innings, taking care of a lot of business, and having a lot of fun.  With the older boys working, this summer finds me enjoying the younger crew in a new way.  This morning after the older boys were off to work, David asked to make Eggs in a Well - a breakfast we haven't had in a very looong time.

Breakfast is served!

They seem to enjoy this a lot. Looks like we have a new old breakfast favorite!

Terminology

picture taken by David

The terminology my kids use today is so much different than things I would have said at that age. Take Sam's comment for instance: when he noticed the birds were unusually quiet, he declared,  "The birds need recharged!"

David's pets really like him.

Molly seems to have the touch with the birds too.
(you can see by the hair and pajama's this was taken in the morning with before Molly was ready for the day)

Kid Logic -

This weeks kid logic includes..........

Molly had hurt her leg when she fell while playing outside.  It took awhile to comfort her and she continued to complain about her injury off and on through out the day.  At some point she discovered mom's candy corn and candy pumpkin stash in her school bag and replied to mom, "I know what will make my leg stop hurting - one of those pumpkin candies!"

David's really wanted another pet again (as if a fish tank and two turtles for pets aren't enough!)  So for his birthday we got him a parakeet.  The bird is already adapting well to our loud family and will even sit on his finger already.  But what took the cake, was when I came home from shopping today. David had Mozart playing fairly loud in the livingroom.  When I asked him why he was listening to that he replied, "Because Mozart makes birdies smarter!"

Photos by a 4th Grader

Our last few October days have been very beautiful around here. Here are some pictures David took when I let him loose with the camera.  He might be working me out of a job.  David is creative and I think he has a pretty good eye for creative pictures.  I always like seeing what he's come up with.

Then we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; we will show forth and publish Your praise from generation to generation.           Psalm 79:13

The Ponderings of a Ten Year Old

David, who is 10 now, usually has some interesting questions and comments, like wondering why girls don't have to cut their hair, or wondering if we were going to have a coin or dollar bill with President Obama on it now that he is in office.

Today's question was, "Why when people say they are going to get married they don't get married for a really long time!  Why don't they get married the next day, or the next week at least?"  His next comment was, "And then when they get married they leave for a long time and we don't even get to see them!"
Conquering the tree!
David loves stories battles with knights, swords and dragons and he draw pictures of them as often as he gets time to.
David made these out of sticky foam letters. Very creative!

David keeping Mollly warm.
David is by far the most affectionate of the boys.  He is very tender hearted.
Amy took all of these pictures today.  She's thinking she wants to learn how to take good pictures as well as taking good videos.  I thought these turned out nice.
